Where a Vanuatu Passport Makes International Travel Easier in 2026

A Vanuatu passport provides visa-free, visa-on-arrival or simplified electronic access to more than 90 destinations worldwide. Its strongest coverage is concentrated in Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Africa and parts of Latin America.

Among the most notable destinations are Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Mauritius. For people who travel regularly across several regions, this can reduce the number of journeys that require a conventional visa application in advance.

The practical value of a second passport, however, is not determined by the total number of countries alone. What matters more is whether those destinations match the holder’s business, family and personal travel patterns.

Asia-Pacific Is One of the Strongest Regions

Some of the most useful destinations available to Vanuatu citizens are in Asia.

Singapore and Hong Kong stand out as major international centres for finance, trade and business. Vanuatu passport holders also benefit from convenient access to Malaysia, the Philippines and a number of Pacific countries and territories.

Visa-free destinations in the wider region include Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, the Cook Islands and Niue.

Other countries use visas on arrival or electronic entry systems. For travellers who regularly move around Asia-Pacific, this regional coverage can be more useful than a headline mobility score that includes destinations they rarely visit.

Broad Access Across the Caribbean

The Caribbean is another region where the Vanuatu passport offers extensive travel options.

Vanuatu citizens can visit destinations including Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago without completing a traditional consular visa process in advance.

Access also extends to a number of territories across the region.

This can be particularly useful for people who combine several Caribbean destinations within one trip or regularly travel there for business, family or property-related reasons.

Entry conditions and permitted stays are set by each destination individually, so travellers should still check current border requirements before departure.

Africa and Latin America Add Further Travel Options

The passport also provides broad coverage across parts of Africa.

Visa-free destinations include Botswana, Eswatini, Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Other countries use visa-on-arrival procedures, allowing travellers to complete the immigration process at the border rather than through an embassy before departure.

In Central and South America, visa-free destinations include Belize, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and Suriname.

For frequent travellers, this can make regional trips easier to organise and reduce the number of advance visa applications required.

Visa-Free Entry, Visa on Arrival and Electronic Access

Not all simplified entry arrangements work in the same way.

Fully visa-free travel usually means that no visa needs to be obtained before departure. Visa-on-arrival systems involve completing the relevant immigration procedure at the airport or border and may require payment of a fee or presentation of supporting documents.

Vanuatu citizens can obtain visas on arrival in destinations including Cambodia, Maldives, Nepal, Jordan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu.

Electronic entry arrangements provide another option. These systems allow travellers to complete part or all of the process online before departure without visiting a consulate.

From a practical perspective, the main difference is how much preparation is required before the trip and how quickly travel can be arranged.

Why the Second Passport Should Be Compared With the First

The value of Vanuatu citizenship depends heavily on the passport an investor already holds.

For one person, the main benefit may be easier access to Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. For another, Caribbean travel may matter more. Someone else may value additional destinations in Africa or Latin America.

This is why comparing passports only by the total number of accessible countries can be misleading.

A more useful approach is to compare them destination by destination and identify where the Vanuatu passport creates genuinely more convenient entry conditions. In this context, the second passport works as an additional travel tool rather than a replacement for the existing nationality.

Citizenship Without Relocation

Vanuatu citizenship does not require applicants to complete a multi-year residence period or move permanently to the country.

Processing can start from around three months, and there is no minimum annual stay requirement after citizenship is granted.

Vanuatu also permits dual citizenship, subject to the laws of the applicant’s other country. This allows investors to retain an existing nationality while adding another passport that may provide more convenient access in selected regions.

The passport is valid for 10 years and can be renewed.

Applicants do, however, need to complete an in-person biometric procedure during the passport issuance process. Approved biometric locations include Vanuatu, Dubai, Hong Kong and New Caledonia.

Investment Options Under the Programme

Two principal routes are available under the citizenship by investment programme.

The Development Support Program starts from $130,000 for a single applicant. The contribution rises to $150,000 for a married couple, $165,000 for a family of three and $180,000 for a family of four. Each additional dependant adds $15,000.

The Capital Investment Immigration Plan starts from $165,000 and can cover a family of up to four. Each additional dependant increases the required amount by $25,000.

Eligible family members can include a spouse, children and parents, subject to the applicable programme conditions.

Applicants must also complete the required due diligence and source-of-funds checks and provide supporting documentation. A separate FIU due diligence fee applies under the DSP route.

Who Can Benefit Most From a Vanuatu Passport

The Vanuatu passport can be particularly useful for people whose regular travel is concentrated in Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Africa or Latin America.

For entrepreneurs, Singapore and Hong Kong may be the most relevant destinations. For families, the value may come from easier access to relatives, property or several countries within the same region. Others may simply benefit from a wider choice of routes that do not require a traditional visa application in advance.

For this reason, a Vanuatu passport is better assessed in the context of the holder’s actual travel patterns than as an abstract list of more than 90 destinations.
