Home Energy Efficiency - How to Save Money on Your Lighting Bill

High lighting bills are a major issue for a lot of us especially during certain times of the year. Whether you have cash flow concerns or not, everyone is interested in saving money regarding their utilities if they can. The good news is that each one of us can do something to improve our energy outage and therefore exercise a little frugality and if it helps the planet that only provides a little more incentive to do all we can. Here are some suggestions.

Invest In Low Energy Appliances

With so many modern-day amenities available there is really no excuse not to invest in energy-saving appliances. There are so many available from refrigerators to washers and dryers (look for energy star certified models) and so on. Some of them may be pricy at the onset but it will be well worth when you see your power bill decrease.

Become A Fan Of Ceiling Fans

According to Splendidfans.com, Ceiling fans still remain one of the primary choices for many families to stay cool, as they promote good air circulation which could result in you using your AC less. Installing ceiling fans is a smart idea because even though there may not be a dramatic change in temperature, being underneath one can make you feel cooler resulting in you seeing a dramatic change in your utility bill.

Don’t think that ceiling fans can only be beneficial during the summer months, simply cut on the reverse switch and your ceilings will rotate in the opposite direction forcing trapped hot air above down so to you, therefore, making you use the heater less.

Replace Lightbulbs

It is common knowledge now that LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights are much more energy and cost-efficient, therefore, replacing all your lights with modern LED ones makes sense. There are now so many different LED lighting designs that could be incorporated in your interior décor that there is simply no excuse for not using them.

Using Flourescent Light are another option. Although LED lights last longer and are more energy-efficient, fluorescent

Think Tankless!

If you can afford to invest money upfront, you may think about replacing your old water heater and installing a tankless one. Tankless water heaters are more efficient than traditional water heaters because it provides hot water only when needed as opposed to old-fashioned ones that heat a stored amount of water on a continuous basis.

They also last longer than traditional water heaters not only saving in utility cost but replacement cost as well. Again; this is not cheap venture but the significant savings, in the long run, will be more than worth it.

lights offer more efficiency than incandescent lighting at a cheaper price.

Giving The Cold Shoulder

When doing laundry (unless heavily soiled) consider using cold water. With detergents that specialize in working in cold water, you can’t lose! Not only could your clothes last longer but washing in cold water, especially with a low energy washer, can help a ton when it comes to lowering your energy bill.

Unplug For A While

Did you know that your devices and appliances use a lot of energy even when they are turned off? It is true so unplugging them will help you save energy. For even better results, purchase a power strip, plug your devices into it and then shut off the power strip. That will save energy on multiple devices!

These along with many other power-saving ideas may seem at first to be a lot of time, work and money but it is well worth it when you notice substantial savings to your lighting bill every month and especially every year! After all, you have way better things to do with your hard-earned money than to be giving all of it to your bills! You will also sleep better at night knowing that you are doing a little something to better the planet! Don’t feel bad if financial limitations are keeping you from doing all that you want.  Any effort large or small helps so just start, you’ll be glad you did.
